So I visited the Tv Tropes site and searched Submachine. I think I found quite a few intresting stuff to look at.

From re-reading all of these things I've got a feeling that Submachine is, in a way, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy gone wrong. Should I elaborate on that or is it just a rediscovery of America? I can't remember any theories concerning the (seeming) resemblance.
