So, did I mess it up somehow???

I got sick of using mspaint and went for my gimp2. But how could that have screwed it up?

It was probably the upload service that did it.
When we finish, can we do a .gif with the evolution of the image?
Nah. Considering how long that evolution has been, and how terrible quality those gifs usually have... It would have to be a video.

Ok, cool. I got so use to using imageshack on the old forums, I forgot we have an upload feature now. XP

Another edit(I had to do some minor overlaps):

I think this project has hit a wall. Litterally. We've still got a few squares to fill, but once we've done that it would be difficult to expand because the edge is no longer defined only by the size of the picture, but also by the stuff in the outermost squares. Using up the space we have could also be tricky, as there's a lot of different areas with different styles and background, separated by only an empty square or two to use for transition areas. Suggestions?

Transitions all over the place until we fill all the squares. Then we start a new one.
TT: I guess one could use those words to describe it.
