Really just going to post without telling us who it is like that

(it's Lieven Scheire, apparently)

Close enough approximation I guess.

It's kinda expected I guess, but Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange role seemed similar to the Murtaugh I had in mind (with the gray-streaked hair and everything). None of that goofy cape stuff though, pls. But of course, if that were to happen people wouldn't stop yapping about Dr. Strange in Submachine.

(images like this are demonstrate the one or two reasons I enjoyed the shit out of Dr Strange)

Rupert Graves for Murtaugh, maybe? We need more visuals though, like with Liz.

Oh yeah why didn't I tell? No idea.
Lieven Scheire, is a Belgian scientist but he does more TV gigs explaining science than actual science. He also did many comedy gigs since the early 2000s.

Between this and things that I've heard about the Dr. Strange sequel, I'm getting a bit excited but also nervous because these films are getting closer to Submachine themes, and I don't want them to take away from the novelty of a Submachine film (which would totally happen in the future, right?).

This was absolutely not on my radar but that trailer was fantastic. Definitely plan on watching this one when it comes out. I remember The Witch being a very odd and intriguing movie although I had mixed feelings about it after my first watch, but Robert Eggers looks to be an expert when it comes to creating a gripping atmosphere in his films. I might start to track his work a bit more.

I just saw the Lighthouse.
Its good, but at the same time confusing. Again, about two men tending a light house for 4 weeks off the coast of New England. Overtime they start to loss their shit, severely. Because of that it make it difficult to know what was real and what was a Hallucination. Moreover, I got a hint from a review about the movie about Greek Mythology. I watch it, and even then I can see the Greek Mythology symbolism, I just can't figure out which myth might be connected.

Today I watched 1917. It has the best cinematography I have ever seen. It felt like I was there and that they made the entire thing without cutting once. It is very rough and emotional but very beautiful in a morbid way.

Yeah that was something I liked about it too, the illusion of real time via the long cut. There were certainly hidden cuts in multiple places, but still was good for grounding people in the environment.

Okay, I kinda Figure out the Lighthouse. Also, can't wait to see 1917 when it leaves theater.

So in any mythology, at some point it is implied that a person name is actually powerful, if used right that name can be used against the person. So when the real Ephraim Winslow died because Thomas Howard (Robert Pattinson) didn't do anything to save him, and actually wanted to kill the guy. After he left logging and taking Ephraim Winslow name, his soul, or rather what ever part of him his name (Thomas Howard) is attach to a one Eye Seagull.

When Ephraim Winslow (Robert Pattinson),took the wickie job under the dead man name, his seagull self got piss; so he attempt to get back at himself. In attempt to make Ephraim Winslow (Man) kill Thomas Howard (Bird) so that the bad luck of the sea can trap his husk on the island .

Now the main guy, Thomas Wake (Willem Dafoe) knows the lighthouse and it main Lens is alive, and powerful. That is why he been a main wickie for a long time at that lighthouse. It is the equivalence to the fire that Prometheus stole in Greek Mythos. So throughout the film with the combination of that Fire and it's effecting not only Thomas Wake, also the husk of Ephraim Winslow, making him think a Siren wash up on Island, and that the logs he left the real Ephraim Winslow to die in appearing on the coast.

By the end of the film after Robert Pattinson kills Willem Dafoe and looks at the fire, follow by him falling down the stairs and breaking his legs. The Husk of Thomas Howard is left naked on the rocky shores, missing his left eye and to have his gut eaten by the seagulls. Similar fate that Prometheus suffer for a hundred years.

Now this final bit is just speculation, so I can't say without concrete evidence that it is true but I think Thomas Howard might be the biological son of Thomas Wake. The only reason I think this is because Wake might have slept with a whore before the wickie job and ran out when she found out she was pregnant. She named her son after his father Thomas Wake. Moreover, during the length of the film after they get trap in the storm, the character Wake starts to get Ephraim drunk, even on the first night. Then after the storm blew into the lighthouse and Ephraim could see the log book, he finds out how Wake recommending severance without pay. This invokes two thoughts: 1, Wake does this to every new wickie so that he can keep the light all to himself. 2, it invokes the image of a Father figure berating his son for every thing he did wrong.

Again, speculation. But It also explain part of their interaction together. How when drunk they are all hardy and friendly to each other. But when sober, acting in a standoffish manner between themselves. Like a Father and Son who dislike each other.
