According to Google Translate, "Eien" is German for "land". Yet in the ending scene

Theories?

I don't know, maybe there's something to that, but I always assumed the name referred to 永遠 (eien), eternity.

hmm, mighty Google tells that in Japanese it's "eternity", in German - "residence".

I've never heard that word used in any German context, and I can't find any info on it. Would like to know where y'all're getting this from

I don't trust Google with this.
See here, the Bible of the German language: https://www.duden.de/suchen/dudenonline/Eien

No results.

That said, I am under the impression there are common words that do not get into the Duden because they're "spoken language". Still, I have no doubt eien is referring to Japanese.

When I read 'Eien' I see this:

Einstein

Granted I only hear the first syllable in Einstein, but the second E in both cases are missing.
